Mr Anyina said unlike the Champions league Football that is played in Europe, the traditional boxing championship can equally showcase Nigerian culture at such global level, while expressing his utmost delight over the general acceptance of the sport in Niger state.
NSF25: Minister of Sports upgrades Dambe to a compulsory sport
Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, Senator John Enoh has approved the upgrading of Dambe (Traditional Sport) from optional to compulsory sports in the forthcoming 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
The upgrade was made during the 1st National Council on Sports Meeting after the demerger of the Federal Ministry of Sports Development (FMSD) at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu State.
The Council of Sports approved January 2025 as the date for the 22nd National Sports Festival activities.
Dambe capable of showcasing Nigeria culture globally
The Co-Founder of Dambe Warriors League in Niger State, Mr. Chidi Anyina said the traditional boxing league is capable of showcasing Nigerian cultural heritage if properly harnessed and supported.
